NEWS FLASH: Flea Prevention and Your Pets

Just wanted to point out a newly released article by the ASPCA concerning the application of spot flea and tick products applied to the dogs' skin, between the shoulder blades (such as Frontline and other topical flea and tick products).
Heads up if you have cats as well as dogs at home. If you didn't already know this, don't use dog products on cats (and vice versa). I have seen people (not veterinarians, not scientists, not vet techs) post in public forums that it is ok to use the same product as long as you use fewer drops. Please read this article and please be careful whose advice you follow (don't listen to me--listen to the veterinary doctors and researchers).

NEW YORK, June 2 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The ASPCA(R) (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals(R)) today released data demonstrating that cats are more susceptible to illness and death as a result of the misuse of spot-on flea and tick control products. The data, collected by the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, also indicate the overwhelming majority of animal illnesses associated with proper use of spot-on flea and tick control products are mild. The EPA has recently stated on their Web site that they are intensifying their scrutiny of topical spot-on products. Read the full article, click here.

  1. Gee, I'd never put that stuff on my cat!
I've always been pretty careful to keep dog and cat food/treatments/anything separate. ...ever since I heard that aspirin kills cats! ...and after that I heard that it isn't so good for dogs either!
