Please sir, can I have some MORE?

There's a dog behavior/training show on Animal Planet I hadn't seen before, caught an episode last night (I'll have to look up the show's name, its a new one to me) and the trainer mixes couples counseling with dog training. (Makes me kind of glad I'm not a couple.) In last night's episode, he adamantly opposed the use of treat rewards for behavior modification (training). In fact, I get the impression he is opposed to rewarding dogs, PERIOD. What's your point of view? Do you get results without rewards of any kind, using only corrections and "leading?" Do you use treats for rewards? Isn't there an appropriate method to giving treats that doesn't set the dog up to be a cookie monster or counter surfer, or, mugger of small children with food?
